Thanks, Christian. I've not seen that before. That's probably the biggest bounce card that I've ever seen.

Slightly better than a bounce card I would say. It's probably the most efficient and most portable ring flash. It has no hot spots and no loss of power. It's a softbox and ring flash in one. There's really nothing to complain about. I am shocked its made in poland though.

The equivalent thread in the Canon forum is almost 600 posts long and having a quick flick through last night it seems there are so many people buying this lens as a result of these threads. To me, praise from the users who have the lens is the best form of feedback there can be and I don't remember seeing any other lens product gain such a following so quickly based on forum posts.

Sigma really have smashed the ball out the park, no matter how you look at it and my guess is they weren't quite expecting such demand so early on.

More pics peeps.....

@ equestrianguy and the Monkey.... I see your drool worthy camera/lens porn and I raise you....

Chubby meets Siggy!! Check out how sexy the front element on the Siggy is! Dear Lord.

Yep 1 beautiful ring flash that isn't a piece of junk. I could raise that by taking a picture of the siggy inside my 500 F4 VR but I can't see anything the two really have in common besides the drool factor.

I will say it right now. If Sigma puts out a 24-70, 85 and a 70-200 of equal quality Nikon and Canon are going to have some serious hurt.

You might be waiting for a long time for that to happen. The manufacturer got smart by not off shoring it China. You won't see a cheap Chinese knockoff since they aren't manufacturing it in the PRC.

While the Sigma 85mm may be as good as the the Nikon/Canon brands it's not in the same league as the newest creation.

+1 its 85mm equals or betters those of the major brands. I'm hoping for a 105mm or 135mm F2 or F1.8 for portrait (not macro)

A 135 Sigma would be swell. If they could make it better than the Canon 135L and for a lower price point they could really be on to something.

I do like the Sigma 85 with two exceptions. I'm not a fan of the look/feel of the lens and the AF as has been pointed out can have the jack hammer issue.

For those that werent watching the other thread- Sigma acknowledged that the AF problemsI was having with this lens (consistent backfocus on outer AF points only) are common on the D800, and there is a prescribed fix.

Mine went off to Sigma today. Can't wait to have a healthy copy in my hands- the photos in this thread are making it hard.

Erik

I received mine yesterday and I have the same issue on outer AF points. Where did you learn about Sigma's acknowledgment?

I think I'm going to be happy with this lens shooting farther out, too:

@f/4, balanced on edge of stone wall tilted down. No corrections applied in LR4, but certainly some other mucking around, it was a gloomy day.
