p.1 #1 · FT3 50mm Manual Lens on a D7000?

I have a Nikon FT3 in the closet. It has the "kit" 50mm lens on it.

Is this an "AI" lens, or in other words, can I use this lens on my D7000?

I also have a N2020 with the "kit" 50mm lens, I assume this lens can be used on the D7000?

I have been amazed by the 105mm f1.8 manual lens, I would like to try these other lens' just to find out what type of pics will result on digital.

This is a 105mm f1.8 pic I grabbed this last week.

Is this a waste of time considering the investment is only time? (Which I got lots of! )

Thanks, John

Need more info John like a serial number. Here's a very valuable site that a lot of us use to find out details about lenses. http://www.photosynthesis.co.nz/nikon/serialno.html

Leighton has given a great resource. See if your lens is at least AI. If it is, I'm sure you'll find that it takes great pics on digital. Infact, here a great thread about such lenses on Nikon digital (and film - mostly digital).

I dug it out - serial # is 3626066, I would have bet the bank account I took that camera/lens to Florida on vacation in 1976 or 1977.

Interpolating the dates, the lens should have been produced around 1977

We bought a 1978 Monte Carlo the summer of 1978, I used that camera one or 2 years before that, Hmmmmmmm

Is there a chance the records are not that accurate? Or could the 362 range have been produced, transported and sold in 1976?

Anyway, back to the original question, is this lens worth trying on the D7000 considering I already have a 2 year old AF 50mm f1.8?

Is there a IQ difference between different 50mm lens'?

Well, I put the 50mm f2 on the D7000, here is the first pic ever with digital.

I guess I need to warsh the lite bubs!!

This was the second;

Is the flare a result of the lack of modern coatings?

I think this lens will be fun!

The same pic taken with the modern 50mm AF;

no flare compared to the old one!

I guess I have to redo this on a tripod - totally manual to get real accurate results, but, I guess the new glass has a very different coating?

John, of course the lens is worth trying as proven by the image you just shared. I believe the info on this site is fairly accurate, but I guess there's always room for error. Just be sure you don't try any non AI lenses on the D7000, you could damage the camera.

When It comes to the 50's being different, there's a huge difference in some of them. Here's another useful site that compares lenses. http://www.naturfotograf.com/lens_surv.html
