Part 2
Part 3
Part 4

Around late November I spent 2 weeks photographing a small area of Patagonia around Fitz Roy. It was my first international photo trip and only the 2nd time I'd been backpacking. Plenty of challenges and rewards. The weather played lots of games with me and I ended up needing every last day to get the shots I was after. C&C appreciated! Thanks for looking

1) This one is my personal favorite from the trip. It was our fourth trip up to Laguna de los Tres (frozen over here). On our second to last morning we finally saw the morning light hit Fitz Roy.

2) One evening the clouds didn't look like they'd amount to much. Due to the 9:30 sunset and the 2:30 wake up time I was about to go to bed before dark. Fortunately my wife informed me I might want to take a look at the skies as I was taking off my boots to climb in the tent. I was able to scramble to find this composition before the light faded.

3) Not much to say about this one. Another nice sunset near camp.

4) This was our first attempt to hike to Laguna de los Tres for sunrise. Due to the lack of visibility in that direction I decided to cut the hike short and wait for sunrise at this spot. It snowed on our hike into this area the previous day and it continued to snow into the evening. By early afternoon all of this snow was gone.

Beautiful place and awesome images. Three is a stunner, wonderful colour in the sky reflected in the river. Nicely seen and captured.

Great set, like them all. The thirdt is my favorite as well, and fine as is, but…. Have you looked at a portrait or square crop at a level to where the right edge of the river touches the right border. The foreground rocks are great and I believe add to the comp., but the mid river comps. always bother me, and I hate it when shooting it is my only good comp. due to environmental restrictions. Anyways just thoughts, great shots. Rick

Very nice, some lovely light and somewhere I'd love to go! Also a vote for #3 I think but I can see why your favourite is #1 - and it's a bit different. Just a thought, but I wondered about a 4:5ish crop - taking a tiny bit off the top and a fair bit off the bottom? Lizzie

I think that would work nicely. Originally I was shooting that scene as a horizontal composition. I think the horizontal is a better comp, but doesn't include as much of the nice clouds.

Stunning series! It's hard for me to pick out one that stands out because they all do. Thanks for sharing!

I like #1. The foreground rock detail makes it for me. The bit of light catching there provides continuity into the main show.

Really nice set. Love the strong composition in no. 3. Great work and a very unique perspective.
