Well, I've just sold my 14-24 and will be putting the money towards the Siggy 35 f1.4. Got £920 for the Nikon and the Siggy is £799 so that helped a little but I still feel sorta odd for having traded one of the best Nikon lenses ever for a Sigma! Am I mad??

People always say that the 14-24 is one of their least used lenses but one they can't let go. I totally get it. It was a very hard decision for me to make this move but I rarely use the 14-24, and am always longing to have 35mm covered in my kit list. I think as far as useage goes this is a good move and the Siggy will spend most of it's life attached to one of my cameras, plus I have 24mm covered with the 24 f1.4. My focus is leaning much more towards portraiture and weddings these days and my landscape stuff has taken a back seat considerably. Plus, on FF 24mm is plenty wide to still do landscape work should I feel the need.

In any other scenario I wouldn't even consider trading a Nikon for a Sigma but this lens seems to be getting nothing but outstanding reviews. Anyone else finding themselves trading in Nikon glass for this new Sigma, or planning to do so?

I would have jumped on the new Nikon Nano 35mm, weather sealed, focusing etc. Every Sigma I've bought has had short comings in QC, colour rendition and in focusing dept. Not focus speed just focus accuracy.

Everyone milage varies on this, so just my findings.

I've certainly considered the Nikon 35 and I have tested it myself. It is a very good lens but so far the general consensus is that the Siggy is better. I have also tested the Siggy and I would agree that it is better than the Nikon version.

I know that I don't use my 14-24 as much as I should.... But I just can't imagine NOT having it. For those moments when I need UWA..,. Its the cream of the crop.

I think it's pretty rarely a bad decision to trade something that you don't use much, for something you will use a lot.

If it were a unique lens that you couldn't buy easily, sure, you might want to hang onto it. A lens that's currently in production, though? Forget it. You can always repurchase later if you regret your decision.

that's right, if you don't use UWA that much, 35mm will be a good walk-around lens. Otherwise, you will miss it soon or later

Well since the posts were erased (which is probably a good thing) I'll reiterate what i said. I think its good you sold the 14-24. In my personal use, its been very limited. I typically only brought it out when doing architecture or of things of that nature. I found the 16-35 way more practical and the extra stop doesn't bother me since most of my stuff in that range is f/11 and on a tripod. The Sigma 35 is definitely a tempting little piece of glass. I can't wait to get my hands on it.

Well, having looked back through my previous landscape work it seems that the majority of my stuff is around the 24mm range anyway so for now I can't see me missing the ultra wide stuff.

I think the 35 makes a lot of sense. I love the 24mm f1.4 but sometimes find it a touch too wide for my day to day stuff and the 50mm is often just too long, especially when I'm doing close indoor stuff. Will try and get a copy of the Siggy over the weekend and get some samples up.

Well, I say that you've made a good decision for yourself. Instead of having money tied up in a lens that you rarely use, you've invested in a lens that you will use a lot more.

U Mad? Not really... My favorite lens is the 16-35, which I sold to get the 24 1.4G, which I then sold to get the Sigma 35 1.4. Now THAT'S MAD.

This is just a hobby for me, if a lens doesn't work out I just sell it and move on to the next one that works. Simple as that!

where did u get 35mm in CA?
btw, do you try the lens under live view to see if you can autofocus? I have sig 50mm and it can't focus under live view with D600, so I have to send back to Sigma for "upgrade".

I've been thinking the same recently, but with my 70-200 vr2

Its a great lens but I'm not a pro and find myself not using it due to the size and weight,that and the fact i nearly always have one or both my kids with me who are both under 5.

If i do I can buy the sigma and use the rest to pay of more of my d800 as half was on finance... but I know I will regret it as soon as I do,even though its only been used maybe 8 times max in over a year.
