Paul: best combo for me would be 1d3 + 5Dc.

I'm having a problem currently with my 5Dc (explained & detailed it here on a another thread).

If I were to have one body, I would go for the 1d3.

If two bodies: then 1d3 + another 5dc.

The 1d3 has served me well. I have two and do not plan on getting rid of them any time soon. I will however pick up something to go side by side with them when shooting events. I think the 40d (which I used to own) will work perfectly for my needs, unless funds for the 5d2 open up first.

But the 1d3 is a really capable and for me still a relevant body.

Help a nikon guy out, I'm thinking of jumping ship and looking for a sports body. My main question is how is 'high iso' on the 1d3 vs the 1d4? Obviously it isn't as good, but for those of your experienced in poorly lit little league fields at twilight, what reasonable iso performance could I expect with a 1d3? I'm hoping for a useable iso 6400 without having to post everything with noise ninja or similar.

Thanks!!

Thank you. Looks like the 1d3 wont quite cut it then.

The 1D3 is an awesome beast. Seeing these shots brought a question to my mind, so I'll ask it hoping I don't offend you, Jim.

Do you watermark all the images you process or just the ones you display on the web?

my 1D3 has been sitting collecting dust but always charged and ready to shoot when my 1D4 goes down which hasn't happened. 1D3 is amazing camera and great photos from everyone... keep'em coming.

Have to agree about the 1D IV for 6400 iso. I love my 1D III but at 6400 iso there will be PP and noise to deal with.
From what I see regarding the high quality of photos from the Nikon sensors at high iso, you would be best to go with a IV.

No worries about offending me!

I only just started, on the prompting of a fellow photog and friend, concerned about my FB postings. Personally, I don't like adding copyright info on the image -- it's a lot different than signing a painting, and I don't sign my paintings on the front (as a rule). To answer your question: I only add on processed images, and only those that are publicly published, and only as of about a week or two ago.

I'm curious how it strikes you -- good, awkward, distracting, necessary, poor taste, pretentious?

I'm glad I did use the (c) symbol, as the "Smelly Shoes and Sox" will probably pay my retirement, don't you think? Ha-ha!

I was wondering if that was going to be commercially available!

A few slightly less conventional combinations and use of the 1D3.

Taken with the 45 TS-E (without adjustments). This lens has such a large image circle, and the 1D3 offers additional crop into the center-of-center prime imaging area. Even though this isn't a walk around combo for most people, it offers outstanding IQ from wide open at f/2.8 with almost no light fall-off (vignetting).

As I may have mentioned previously, both the body (AF repair/overhaul, adjust and clean) and lens (change tilt axis, adjust and clean) have just returned from Canon CPS Irvine, and are functioning beautifully.

ISO 100 under overcast skies, hand held.

I love mine. Somebody mentioned useful shooting up to 800 ISO. i regularly shoot at 2000 with great results. Here are some random photos taken at various ISO's.

Doesn't hold a candle to Lars...but it's the best kingfisher shot I've gotten yet.

It's been a fabulous camera for me! Sadly, I will be selling mine soon (just need to get the shutter count before I put it up on B&S). I hope the 1DX lives up to the great press it's gotten.

Some great images in here

So here's the question. Looking around it seems that a mk3 can be had for about £1k and a mk4 for about £2k (give or take) . So is the mk4 twice the camera .?

Also how do the 10ml files hold up to heavy cropping? Not thinking in terms of printed stuff but more displayed on screen (smugmug etc) .
To give an example . Last year I shot quite a few moto GP images with a 7D &100-400 . But had to crop most down to about 8-10mp . This year ill have a 120-300 with both a 1.4 &2x TC on it. (Not tried the 2x yet but I've seen decent results from the combo) .
