Great luck with the clouds Jim! Very well seen. I was there recently chasing clouds. I woke up at 5am and there was not a spec of cloud in the sky anywhere, which is a very common thing there. I too am a big fan of where the polygons have truly crusted up.

Thanks so much Kurt. Yeah, trust me, I have lot's of images with no clouds too! I have been fortunate lately that I am going out there now only when the weather is forecasted to have some clouds. Course, that is no guarentee, but it does help narrow the odds down a bit.
We might have to set up a FM group meeting out there this spring...

That's a very beautiful sky! I love how the color is reflected very naturally on the salt. It's difficult to pull off very natural shots there since the light can do strange things when it hits the salt. I'm looking forward to heading back there in a few weeks -- I plan on checking out my super secret part of badwater where the salt is always nice. :-)
Hey Ben,
Thanks so much! Gettng the right feel is not an easy thing out there. Yeah, if I recall you do have a really cool secret spot out there. While this spot isn't secret, it had been pretty consistent with nicely crusted polygons until this time. I might have to explore a bit more next time, but this area is pretty cool. I remember back to when I used to have a GPS signal to find it, now it's all automatic in my head, and don't even need a headlamp most mornings to find it.

Amazing shot Jim! The the warm colors of the salt flats due to the sunrise is a very refreshing take on this location. I've have done a couple shots where I decided to go with a cooler WB to emphasize the salt, but the warmer WB really gives it the natural look of being there. The orange-y and magenta-y tones really make the foreground pop
Thanks so much! Yeah, it's interesting the different options on how we can process shots from Badwater. I do like how this one turned out.

Love the shot - both the texture of the polygons, and the sky color. It might look really great printed on metal.
By the way, during trip to DV, Badwater made me really sick - could not breath because of all these tiny salt crystals in the air. Did anyone experience anything like that?

Hey Sasha,
Thanks so much for that, it was a beautiful morning to be out shooting.
As to not breathing, I hadn't noticed that before, or anyone I have taken out there to shoot has never experienced that to my knowledge. That is very strange. I am sorry to hear that it affects you that way, cause Badwater is a fun place to shoot.
Nice image Jim, the polygons still haven't precipitated much salt as of Christmas. I was out helping my son with some exposures near that same location.
