p.1 #1 · How do you ship the 300 f/2.8 back to Canon

Hi,

I need to ship this lens back to Canon for the firmware upgrade (what a hassle!), anyhow, how should I ship it? Should I ship it in the original suitcase?

Yes, I would definitely use the hard case and if available, original shipping box. Don't forget to get the package insured for full replacement value.

Yes on the suitcase, and make sure you have packaged the suitcase well inside the box just like you would any other lens. UPS or Fedex with insurance and a tracking number.

Protect yourself!!! Insure for $6800. If you will pay and let the shipper pack it, they will guarantee delivery.

Doesn't Canon cover all the shipping with insurance for this themselves

Contact Canon to confirm, I believe they should. Are you sure the label they sent is pre-paid for everything

It would cost a ton to pay for shipping with $8000 insurance yourself and it is essentially defective product under warranty.

Obviously contact them first though to make sure.

I wouldn't use the original shipping carton...as Canon won't ship it back in it....then you would lose it

Let's see...you have a fragile item worth between $3-5K, you're going to ship it on trucks, planes, conveyors and freight handlers that will toss it around....you have the original custom fit hard protective case that is made to ship this item in.... and you're still wondering about using it? THAT's why.
