I have seen tutes on this as well as the tilt and shift effect. But does the fisheye effect in ps even come close to a fisheye lens?

Yes, Photoshop can do this very realistically.

Thanks Patrick, I have acquired a fisheye, but I think I will do the tilt/shift cool effect in PS until i can justify the real thing.

yeah, fish eye is easily done in photoshop. I personally never really liked the effect, but to each their own.
