Taken on alleged doomsday, at V-V National archeological site.
The glyphs were created by ancestors of Hopi people, and served as solar calendar.
On a moment of solstice, sun passes exactly between rocks. The geometry is much better expressed when the observer stands closer and lower - at a spot that is currently fenced out.
Jim, Rob and AMaji, thanks for the comments!
The place is very cool indeed.
I planned to take a picture of a solstice there for a couple of years already, and decided that doomsday is a perfect timing for that.

Alatoo- Glad the prediction didn't pan out . I would have missed these fine images.
Not sure what V-V means, but it sure has some good examples of early SW rock carvings.
Thanks for sharing them.

Charlie, thanks! That's the site.
I guess they call it V-bar-V, where "bar" sounds redundant to me
Thanks for the link.
Dang it- I lived in the old mining town of Jerome some years ago and my explorations took me to Montezuma's Castle and Montezuma's Well- but I never heard of this site, and missed it. Pooh.

Charlie, I think this site became open to the public only in 1994, it is not widely publicized, and I would not know about it if not for my friend who is into b/w film photography and shared the location with me. So I went... and went again. I am gradually getting more and more fascinated with the ancient glyphs.
