Hi
Happy New year to you

Yesterday I spent a very blustery afternoon on the cliffs at Lands end, south Cornwall. The extreme wind meant I had to find a low and sheltered position to reduce the camera vibration. Obviously this hampered my compositional choices but sometimes you have to make compromises.

Best wishes

Jane

Very nice Jane, love the turbulence and the excitement you've captured. I'm wondering if the image might benefit with a slight crop off the bottom, so the cliff starts in the lower right corner, that would offset the center rock a bit, (my.02).
What are the structures near the left horizon?

Hi Zeph

Ill have a see how the crop looks,
the structure on the top right is the iconic Longships lighthouse with its associated trecherous rocks

Beautiful - Really like this B&W version! Really good composition. Dramatic! Love the waves hitting the marvelous cliffs. The white water close to the coast against the dramatic skies... Well done Jane

Nice! Love the dramatic action, both in a sky and in water. Happy New Year to you, too!

Nice work, Jane and Happy New Year! I scrolled down and Zeph's suggestion looks like it
should work.

Thanks,

Such wonderful rough seas... always enjoy when a photo catches the power of the water. The contrast in the white seas vs dark is my favorite part. The cliffs are the cherry on top.. thanks for sharing

Hey Jane,

What a cool shot! I wouldn't crop the shot myself, as I do really like how the line of water angles into the lower left corner. Cropping would cause you to lose all that gorgeous water detail.

Hi 1.6 secs Iso 100 and f18.

I am really kicking myself that I didn't do a fast shot for a blend as it was so windy there was going to be some degradation of the clarity. It's not as if this is a new concept to me as I have done blends like this before when conditions have been rough. Nuts !!!

Jane - this is lovely - you certainly don't look at it and think 'compromised'! ;-) Super choice of shutter speed - there's a real sense of energy and power of the seas and for that reason alone, I certainly wouldn't crop a thing. Either way, it's a very well balanced and striking image. Lizzie

its me being rubbish and overlayin the sky from an image that hadn't resized properly onto the smaller JPG.
I went back to the original PSD file and did it properly.. less haste more speed as they say

Fabulous work just as it is!
Cropping the bottom to use the cliff as a lead throws away the lead formed by the wave in the lower left. Not a good trade-off in my opinion as the shot is really about the wind and the water, not the cliff.

VERY nice, Jane. Black and white is an excellent choice for this shot. Great SS for catching the turmoil in the water. Wonderful work.

I really like the variety of textures in this shot --- ranging from the turbulent water in the foreground, to the rocky cliffs, to the clouds in the sky. I'm glad you went with B&W for this one, because it really enhances the mood.
