IF you do get a new 6D make sure Wifi works.

Everything worked great on the 6D I got, but when I tried to do WiFi. it found no APs when attempting to scan for one using the infrastructure mode. nor would it pair with a iphone when trying to use it as an AP itself (ie iphone would never see the SSID of the 6D)

I suspect a bad radio module or maybe the internal antenna to radio module inside the camera.

GPS worked fine, everything else works fine.

So I just opened up an RMA to exchange for another 6D

Anyhow back to the 20D until then, but one thing is 6D focuses fast and accurate in moonlight that is for sure and it gets it down good. Shutter sound is definitely subdued over the 20D. iso 12800 is definitely a usable ISO.

A usable ISO 12800 would be wonders for me. Is the 6D about 1 stop better in high iso noise control than the 5D3 then?

No. Its measured slightly better, but slightly poorer than the 1dx.

Were talking fractions here.

Remember '1 stop' is twice as efficient. We wont see those kind of real results unless we have a step change in technology.

So better than the 5d3 not as good as the 1dx. As I said.

According to DxO labs, the 6D is slightly better than the 5D Mark III, but not as good as the 1D X.

DxO's ratings use a methodology where they test for the highest ISO setting that will maintain a signal-to-noise ratio [SNR] of 30dB, a dynamic range of 9EV, and a color depth of 18bits. Their results for those three bodies are:

1D X: ISO 2786
6D: ISO 2340
5D Mark III: 2293

By way of comparison, my 7D rates 854 and my old 20D rates 721.

Man, my 7D is pretty amazing for the money but I am sure beginning to feel its limitations. Might be time to move up to FF sooner than later now. Sorry for having taken this so off-topic btw

So far so good. B&H has shipped me a new camera. I get it tuesday. first time I ever had to return anything to them. Customer service has been very good so far. I have always bought my gear through them and looks to be I will be continue to do so. Very smooth process.

Well the new one the Wifi works. With the 24mm 2.8 IS lens it is a light weight low light shooter.

Another thing, the Silent shutter is damn quiet, the normal shutter was quieter than my 20D but activating the silencer, it is nice low level swoosh. And with beep turned off and the USM on that 24mm its quite discreet especially with the small size of the 6D body.
