Yakim, you are right that the information may be subjective. However, speaking as another 40D user who is considering the upgrade, it would still be extremely useful. I can live with the lower framerate, and would be thrilled to have the high ISO capacity, but if the 6D autofocus is no better or worse than the 40D autofocus, then, for me, it is a non-starter.

Any real world feedback would therefore be welcome.

I hate to sound like a broken record, but Yakim is right that the AF will either work for you or it won't.
I have used many different AF systems, and so far I'm quite please with the 6D. It does some things very well, but I wouldn't expect it to be able to perform well in certain situations- sports, fast action, BIF.

Well, in my case for cost reasons I am limited to one, "do it all" body. My kids have graduated high school, so I'm not shooting sports (hockey and volleyball in my case) anymore. Still, from time to time, I will go to an airshow or do some BIF in addition to vacations, landscapes, street and family events.

In my hands, at least, the 40D's AF was never more than ok for hockey (or for BIF, airshows or anything else in motion for that matter) but the decent frame rate made it a good compromise camera and I always found the IQ to be acceptable, even at the absolute max ISO (3200).

Given my needs now, I'd happily trade off a couple of FPS for more accurate AF with respect to moving things, genuinely useable high ISO (3200+) capability and better IQ. If the 6D can handle moving objects passably well, then it might be the camera for me. If not, then I guess I'm hoping for the 7dII.

Hey Rob, thanks for you input, given your crop body experience; our conversations, I understand your 'fine' reference. I didn't expect the newer non-cross type outer points to be quite as sensitive as the older xxD body cross types. As long as they're usable for city/landscapes, flowers n plants, close-up/macro all is okay.

I'll probably give the 6D a hands-on before I buy. For action my 40D or 50D will be my go to body until the update to the 7D comes out. The 6D will handle my more static subjects and will eventually replace film and my EOS-3s.

For me this camera is a HUGE upgrade from the 5DMKII and 7D.
I have no qualms with shooting on an f/4 lens like the 24-105. The only drawback is the IS motor noise in videos with that lens.

My images are clean and video is amazingly clean at any ISO too.

Had it for about 30 minutes. I'm in love. So glad I didn't spend the extra money on the 5D3 as it doesn't have any features I need. I'll be keeping my 5D2, and it's still my absolute all time favorite camera, but the autofocus and high ISO on the 6D already has me smitten.

50 1.4 @ f/% and ISO 6400.
