Question for Brian V. - You seem to have taken quite a lot of hoverfly shots, do you often see the protolegs and head coming out of the larval 'sheath'?

First time I've seen this; the cockroach was feeding on the honeydew exudate from the flatid bug and even when scared away several times it returned.

Ant-mimicking Alydid nymph:

Fungus-mimicking shield bug exudes wax from its cuticle to blend in amongst the decomposing foliage and organic material:
