I've read comments from other wedding photogs who think the D600 is a great value, especially at the recently dropped prices, for a wedding business. Based on my own experience over a couple of weeks covering an event that included a lot of low-light work, I jumped on a 2nd D600 body myself when the "sweet deals" came out this weekend. (Used to shoot with 2 D700 bodies, letting go of one now.) One of the major attractors are great IQ and redundancy/backup with the dual card slots. Thoughts?

I handled the D600 a few times and I think the AF-spread is way to small.
Better use a D800 in 1.2 crop - also 25MP, but the AF-areas go far to the edges...

I am going to rock a few D600's for the 2013 wedding season. Since using a D3 I will not go back to a camera that does not have dual slots. Just for the peace of mind is worth it.

This past year we shot with a bunch of D7000's and a D3s and loved them. I'm going to be swapping out the D7000's for a few D600's. Great camera. A lot of people will act like snobs and apprehends and say they wont shoot a wedding with a D600 and it is not a professional camera.

Guess what? I shot 71 weddings with a few D7000's and never had an issue and all of those clients LOVED the photos. I loved them too. Besides, isn't a camera just a tool? As long as it gets the job done right, then it shouldnt matter. Right?

Enjoy your D600's this year. I know I will.

I'll be going with a D600 as well with a D7000 pulling backup duty. I'm looking forward to seeing how it holds up.

I think that's a fair comment, and one that hinges a lot on how you AF. For me, it's not a big deal, but I can see how it would be if you shot a lot of action sequences, especially in sports.

@paparazzinick & @Deebo: great to hear others think the D600 will do great by them. Just got done covering a non-wedding event, and I must say I'm pretty impressed with how the D600 handled the subject matter.

I'm looking for one more body when I buy gear in a few months, and until recently I've been intent on getting the D600. The more I look into it though, the more I'm put-off by: its size, ergonomics, and small AF area. I'm not one to shy away just because Nikon calls it an "enthusiast" camera - I shot with a two D80's and a D2HS in Iraq and got great results - but it sure would be nice to have a D600 sensor in a D700 body, which just feels more "right" to me.

So it's a toss up between a 600 or a used 700. I've yet to put my hands on the 600, which will play a huge role.

I'm considering the same. My D700 produces such amazing colors, though, I don't know if I want to make the switch.

As it stands, though, I have a D7000 that sits collecting dust and losing value because my wife now has a D700 as her main and we just never use the D7000. Plus, I dislike the images that my copy of the D7000 produces.

Jumped on the D600 deal this week to replace our D700 (currently shooting with D700/D800 combo) and to be our new vacation camera as well. Really stoked about it.

Well, in my own testing, I've found the color indistinguishable between the D700 and D600, especially in the reds, where things always go south faster (with particular concern for skin tones).

Speaking of color issues, I never had much luck doing a match for a session where I used a D700 and D7000 side-by-side. The D7000 gave me many great shots, but caused me a lot of work, especially with them reds.

+1 on D700 skin tones and colors. Just wonderful.

D7k skin tones are just not as good.

Nope. The AF spread does not affect my shooting. IMO, the AF is pretty fast.

The body only is the same price as the bundle at the moment. Seems like theyre trying to get rid of the lenses for free or i dunno. Curious business plan for sure.

Thoughts?

I'll bet it drops a few after new years. Ill go with $1700 for the body. Maybe lower?

They're over-stocked on the kits, so they're letting them go. $2389 for the 70-300 & 24-85 bundle, too.

I agree. Even if the ISO is slightly better, the FPS is the same, the body does video, etc., I have fallen so much in love with the color rendition of the D700, the ISO performance is plenty adequate, the feel of the body in my hand is superb (not too small, not too big) and it does what I need it to, and nothing I don't.

I have a hard time even justifying a D600 if I sell the D7k to fund half of the cost.

FYI, the color from the D600 matches up very nicely with the D700. That was a relief to me since I intend to shoot them side-by-side in the same jobs.
