Roland, I was in the Afghanistan in 2009. Lovely place actually. I would really suggest you take more non military photographs(kids,people,etc). Folks here will appreciate it more. Plus, as you know, Afghanistan is not that bad, once you go outside of the war zones(not sure if you had a chance)

Roland, fine work. Your photos and your story brought back memories of my start in photography with the 2nd Infantry Division photo unit at Camp Howze in Korea 1969-70. Your photos from Afghanistan will become prized possessions for the rest of your life. Best of luck with your new endeavor when you return home. Rich

What refreshing style of photography! Instead of the usual cake and flower, I see assault rifles.
Instead of another shot of groom staring at the mirror, I see a soldier. Blackhawks pwn black limos anytime.

Haha, thanks. It's the opposite for me right now. Black Hawks are the norm, and kind of noisy. I could go for a limo!

That second image just grips me! And I love the one where you can see the helicopter blade bending as the soldier walks towards the chopper. I can almost hear the whirring and the shouting, and see the dust kicked up. THAT is what excellent photography is all about.

I have a brother over there as a truck driver right now, so this for me was incredible to see, since he's on special assignment and we haven't been able to hear from him in some time. It was almost too easy to pretend I was seeing a glimpse through his eyes. It gave me great comfort.

Thank you for giving the ultimate sacrifice for our country.
