I printed one than I had a second thought about the one I didn't print. So here I submit to you these two images. Which one would be your choice and why? All opinions are appreciated

I like the pose in the second best and better light and detail on the chest. There seems to be a color cast in both, too much blue/purple? I am poor at color cast.

I would soften up some of the OOF areas with a blur tool. Or darken them.

Nice shot by the way.

Technical issues aside, I think the second demonstrates providing a mechanism for the viewer to 'connect' with the subject. The bird's appearing to be looking at the viewer makes it a personal matter; in #1 the viewer is not an active participant but rather a dissociated observer.

My 2¢

Robert,
First, nice to see you over here!
Second, both have a magical, painterly look, provided by the beautiful bokeh and softly focused branches along the edge.
The eye contact makes the second my choice.
For me, the purplish cast is too much, but it seems you are going more interpretive throughout the image. If you were going for more "accuracy" but still like the dreamy setting, you might correct the white balance on the branch and bird only.

Thanks Ben.

You know me, I've never seen very many blue snowballs ... nor very many purple branches.

Of course, when going for the interpretive ... its all fair game.

But you see blue where I see white. I tell my wife that black and white are not colors, pink is just light red, and other absurdities. Its a sloppy color judgement.

She asks me what color a car was. I can tell her the make model, bore and stroke and tire size but almost never the color.

But even I saw the cast in this one.

Your interpretation is probably more "natural', but for me it looks flat and relatively dull. For my taste I prefer the vibrancy of my painting.

+1 @ S&P to taste ... always subjective as to what the chef wants to put on the plate to tantalize our palette.

Way to go. I love cooking. For a new plate, I check and follow the direction for the first time. After that, all follow my fantasy and quite often after a while, the original instruction is no more to be found.
