Hello,

I have scheduled my first engagement session tomorrow morning and I was hoping for some last minute advise/suggestions. I also wanted to know if using only the 14-24 2.8 and 85 1.8g only would be too bold and/or challenging or should I play it safe with the 24-70 and maybe the 70-200?

I'd take it all, but pretty much leave the 70-200 on unless something really caught my eye. The last thing you want to be doing is fumbling with lenses and settings

You only need the 24-70, 85 and 70-200. The 14 will most likely be too wide. Also, with two people, there won't be "much" need to shoot below 2.8. The 85 will allow you to get creative below 2.8, but not by much. The 24 through 200 will most likely get the job done.

My advice: Go slow. Take time to think. Once you think you've slowed down, slow down even more.

All depends on your style. Having just the 70-200 would not be ideal for me...I would need something wider like your 24-70

Its funny you say that. Speed has been my achilles heel since the first time I picked up a camera. I will definitely heed your advice.

Side note: I always try to use natural light when I am shooting however, I am curious to know how you guys feel about utilizing speedlight(s).

That was my thought process as well. I find that in a lot of situations I prefer to go wide and tight.

Do your back a favor and just take the 24-70 then a couple of strobes.

Your first engagement session and you have a D800, 14-24, 24-70 & 70-200 VR? and an 85 to bring?

With that much invested, I'm confused why you would be asking about gearz.

Not trying to troll or anything, usually I see only have a basic cam and kit lens for posts such as this.

24-70 and 85. The best photos are when the couple makes magic. Let them relax and play.
