Taken in February of this year, but I'm just going back through them now. My wife and I have a lucky tendency to show up with good weather. In Oregon, we were there for the only sunny days in a long block of cloudy dreary ones.
I see the first image has the essential nice catch lights. It looks like you were also able to capture a nice smile on the young man. The lighting looks a bit flat on the face and of course the skin tones could use some work.
Your second image is my favorite. The shadows help to bring some interest to the scene. It looks like you may have also done some dodge and burn to help the image.
I am not a fan of black and white. I would probably prefer the color version but that is just me. I think you did a good job with the conversion and have some nice blacks, whites and intermediate tones. I like the overall contrast level.
First is my favorite. A whimsical image.
Second doesnt work for me. I dont find a particular point of interest, though my eye is first pulled to the log pointing into the water on the right. Composition would be strengthened if you could find a foreground and midground interest.
Third is more engaging than the second. Less static, eye is immediately drawn to the breaking wave. While there are some interesting shapes in the foreground rocks, I dont find the subject engaging enough to sustain interest. I am torn between the BW and color versions. The brownish tones give the color version a look reminscent of some Winslow Homer colors. Might play with a sepia conversion or possible a duotone.
