p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Beating a Dead Horse

My mission this time as I beat the Dead Horse was to use my RRS pano head and 24mm tilt-shift to try and come up with something. This is a three (portrait) shot pano, which worked just about perfect to capture this viewpoint in full at dawn. Not very experienced with panos and the subsequent processing. But... still felt I should show it here. The beauty of the pano head and tilt shift combo is to eliminate all convergence and distortion... Should be pretty straight.

Thanks!

That's a beauty Craig. Lots of luscious details in there. Well captured and processed.

That is one OUTSTANDING capture. Very well processed - If it is not straight, I can't see where. Not sure how you could improve on that one!
Thanks for sharing

I believe you've got a winner here. This is a stunning shot. Plus it has a big hole in which to bury the dead horse...

Hey Craig,

I know you had a lot of questions prior to shooting this, but I would say you answered all of them. This is totally awesome. Way to go.

Thanks everyone!

Jim thanks for the advice too!

The hard part of course, it trying to get a manual focus lens perfectly focused when it's dark. Fortunately, with a 24mm it's pretty close to infinity anyway. Still..

Patrice, since you are by the ocean you might not like the sheer cliff walls and 500 foot drops...

If I could offer any advice for this location, it's that you've got to be there and ready about 15-20 minutes before sunrise. It's a tremendous light show for maybe 1/2 hour total when it starts (about 15 minutes before sunrise). If you are there even 1/2 hour after official sunrise, it's all over (although you might believe it's still good).

I don't think I've seen this before from this angle. So in that respect, I think you have achieved your goal, nice shot!

The perspective, light, level of details are incredible. The cliff on the left seems a bit disturbing for me but on the other hand it provides a sense of scale, so it should remain there. As about whether it is straight... I would not notice the difference. Missed my chance to go to Dead Horse SP when in Canyonlands, but may be, one day...

Thanks again!

Aleksandra, the cliff is supposed to be disturbing... As you say it's for scale. Not sure what the drop is there, guessing 500-800 feet. I need to check, but I believe it's the same cliff that was being climbed by Tom Cruise in Mission Impossible II...

And the same road used in Thelma and Louise.
