While not in the same caliber as some of the amazing shots I've seen so far, I did have a lot of fun with the kids doing this impromptu photo shoot of smashing apples - that's your truly take a swing.
EXIF in image - Canon 7D with 70-200 remote release and off-camera flash on lightstand just outside of frame.
Fairly lean year for me, with health problems limiting my ability to get out and about with a DSLR kit. Got a few shots though, this is maybe the best. 5D with Samyang 85mm f/1.4:

This has been somewhat of a lean year for me with the camera. Not nearly as much
shooting as I would like. I do like this one, however.
Taken with a 1DMKIII, 600mm f4L IS lens and 1.4X TC in Yellowstone back in May.
I have been to Yellowstone ten times altogether and this trip (and another in June) were my first with a 600mm. My Gosh, what a diffference! There were shots that I wouldn't have been able to get nearly as well with a 500 that were great with the 600. I was very impressed. Even as heavy and awkward as it was, it was well worth the effort.
It was hard for me to pick, but this is Ryan Hunter Reay at Indianapolis during practice the day before qualifying this year. I was up on the 10th floor of the pagoda shooting down through 3/4" thick glass with my 1D Mark III and 70-200 2.8 IS II. The light from the low-angle sun was reflecting off of all the windows and lighting the cars up as they went by below. This was at 1/320th shutter speed. I later printed this out and got him to autograph it for me. Very cool for me!
It was tough picking just one image from 2012. I could have easily picked a spot I photographed in Hilton Head where I proposed to my fiance. But I decided to go with the below image of NYC since I have not photographed it quite some time.
