We started out right under this splitting storm (at Norton, KS) and chose the right split, but it went outflow dominant on us and we raced east trying to get ahead of what we hoped would be a picturesque gust front. The storm was expanding almost as fast as we were driving and it took us quite a while to finally get out in front of it (near Mankato). I'm glad that the place we decided to pull over had this great yellow clay road and the terrain that it did. We had only a few minutes before it overtook us and we would try to race out front to get another chance at it. You would not believe the temperature drop when that gust front overtakes you.
