The cheap Dell and LG IPS monitors tend to do okay in reviews, but the low prices are usually helped by use of eIPS 6-bit + FRC panels. That means the panel natively produces 262,144 colours and uses dithering to achieve the 16.7m colours.
The '82% gamut' figure is also a little misleading, as it uses the non-standard CIE1976 reference point to generate a higher figure than the usual CIE1931 72% gamut—which equates to a standard gamut (roughly sRGB). Unless I'm mistaken this is a relatively recent Dell ploy, or maybe it escaped my attention before.
Despite all this: the S2340L is probably a decent upgrade from a TN panel monitor or laptop screen. A slightly less skinny 16:10 aspect ratio is nice for photo editing, but again tends to cost more money.
