p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · 6D raw samples (as TIFFs)

Took the new 6D out yesterday for a stroll in Sausalito, California.

I've owned a few full-frame DSLRs over the years (5D, 5DII, Nikon D3, Sony A900, Sony A99) and while all were excellent the 6D is the best so far, for me. Really nice size, weight, ergonomics, viewfinder. And price!

A lot of people are eager to see what this camera can do in RAW and after looking at yesterday's images they seemed (while not the greatest pictures) to be excellent candidates for comparing RAW to jpg -- lots of shadowy areas, some blown out areas, lots of sky, lot of detail in high ISO pictures.

Here are the images in reduced-size JPG:

ISO 100 -- taken with Voigtlander 180mm f4 APO

Original size out-of-camera jpgs. (note I have the camera's "High ISO Speed NR" turned down one notch to "1"/"low")

Finally, I converted these images to TIFFs using DPP with NR at zero and Sharpening at zero. Everything else default.

These TIFFs are HUGE (120 megs) and I'm sure I'll hit my dropbox bandwidth limit pretty fast, so please only download those you actually wish to play with.

Thank you. Great samples. Nice samples of ISO 6400 noise.
How was manual focusing? Did you use the original focus screen?

Thanks.

I installed an EG-S screen for easier and more accurate manual focusing, and it makes all the difference. Manual focusing is now quite easy and accurate.

So ... no one played with the TIFFs and has any thoughts to share?

By the way, I noticed that the full-size JPG links need to be copied & pasted to work right, so here are some shortened links that will take you right to the full size jpgs ...

Very interesting. Can't say I fully understand what's being measured in the graphs, but the text is clear enough -- very nice results for the 6D.
