Anyone see a use for an expensive lens with these specs in their wedding work?

Well, that lens is coming soon and it's not going to be cheap. Priced in the direction of four figures.

It is intended more for video that stills I think. Can't say as I would see much use for it myself unless I wanted to do long exposures hand held. Might be an option if it has stellar IQ.

Image stabilization IS useful at such shorter and wider focal lengths... it's almost always the people who haven't tried it here that are convinced it's useless. But anyway... yeah, sounds a useful lens.

Pricing policy that Canon introduces lately just amazes me- make worse lens (24-70 4.0 for ex.) and charge big $$$ for it. Unfortunately that means that really good lenses when being introduced in future will be VERY expensive (24-70 2,8 II is a good example).
35 2.0 is- sounds great but price should be rather 600-800$ range.

For that price get a siggy 35 1.4 and don't worry about the IS.

just for the record, the IS will be extremely helpful for video. Thats its main purpose imo.

I'd like to hear some ideas how the unique qualities of this lens could be used in our line of work.

I wish Nikon would update their 35/2, even if it was expensive. Lightweight would be the big advantage to me, and as long as it's sharp at f2 I don't really need f1.4-1.8.

This new lens better be sharp at f/2!

indeed. I can kinda see some good uses for wedding. dragging the shutter for those motion blurs during getting ready etc.

Now shipping in Europe.

User snapshots:

http://eyvindness.zenfolio.com/35mmf2isusm

One of those night scenes was handheld at 1/4 second! (Couldn't tell if the shot was sharp or not without seeing it at magnification.)

Above user says he sold the 35L and he doesn't miss the 35L for one second after using the new 35 IS.

My litmus test for this lens would be is it sharp at 2.0.

The same way I'd use any other 35mm lens. But then I never have to chose over IS or no IS.
