p.1 #1 · the 85mm 1.8G is magic (so is the D700)

So forgive the lack of interesting title or subject, but I just received this earlier tonight. Haven't used an autofocus lens in a few years - and I am embarrassed to say I am reading the manual of the camera to use the AF

Heading to Leavenworth, WA this weekend for the Christmas Lighting Festival they have every year and I wanted this lens for the trip for self portraits of the wife and I.

I also ordered this on ebay and got it today - and it works well so far.

Anyways, here is a shot I took on my way home from work tonight. Mind you my last digital camera (1Ds) only would shoot up to 1200, but I never went above 640. This was shot at ISO 3200 and i applied Define 2.0 to this image..

Welcome to the club Dustin!

You're right, they're both MAGICAL combined together. I love my D700 - 85/1.8G setup. Takes wonderful images for sure.

Here's one from my daughter's wedding reception earlier this year..

Love it! And, here's what I'm using for remote shutter release: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005PCDSBQ/ref=oh_details_o03_s00_i00

They work WONDERFUL! I've actually got a spare unit now that I sold off my secondary D700.

Enjoy my friend!
Jim

The D700 kicks. I don't have a 85 1.8 G but very tempted now.

I purchased the 85G a few weeks ago and it's been attached to my D3 ever since. I love it, that and the 28G make a nice combo.

It would be definitely more magic if it only cost $299.

Come on Michael, $500 is a reasonable price for this lens. But, you're right. It would be PURE magic @ $299

Nice shot Jim!

Yes, $300 would be better price for it. I think the Canon 85mm 1.8 is about $100 cheaper in the used market, same with most lenses I have noticed.

Oh well. Canon didn't have anything equivalent to the D700 in the used market

It would be even more magical if it was free..

$499 is very reasonable for a lens of this quality.

Thanks Dustin! And I'll agree, Canon's EF 85/1.8 is a nice lens (been there, done that.) But what I noticed was HORRIBLE CA. The Nikkor is much better at handling that.

Enjoy the upcoming trip, and take lots-o-pics!

Definitely my next lens. I'm loving 50mm f/1.4G big time. I can't wait to get that 85. My dream at that point is the 24mm f/1.4 and I'll have the only 3 lenses I'll ever need

Loving the low-weight, amazing low-light combo of the D600 + 50 f/1.8G.

Coming from a Canon 500D, the difference is astounding.

Loving this lens on my D600 as well. I had the Canon version, this lens is better and with the extra $100.

TOUGEFC-That is a very lovely shot. Memory of summer... Great showcase of its pleasing bokeh.

I just picked one up for use with D700, and I am very pleased with this lens too.
