Peter, we've not the correct soil or climate for vino growing in our area of SoCal, down south or up a bit north in Napa are better lands and some marvelous vineyards. I just finished a nice young Pinot from Chateau St.Michelle up in Washington State and am in the market for something older n deeper...Linda is more of a white wine Lady

And yes, Linda is French (a bit from up your way, mostly of the European variety, with a bit of Italian) I however am a typical american mutt leaning toward the Scandinavian variety; even have the long blonde locks/beard to wear with my sword n shield

I got out today for a bit, shot a few images of our Gingko, only one is good enough for posting and it's from Linda's hands, I'll try again tomorrow, shaky hands in all...our little pijuns are tweeting away, can't see them but they sound wonderful. We've a break in the weather for a few hours, it's quite the nice sunny afternoon in between massive rain storms

Perhaps I'll lower my Pinot standards and open up a Merlot...

Not so sure! I think California Zins have pretty much the highest alcohol content except for ports or fortified wines of course
