Does the hood for the 80-400 VR fit the current 2 touch 80-200? Seems like a deeper hood if so. Can anyone verify?
Also, does anyone have the hood adapter for the HB-29 made/sold by an ebay seller? If so, how does the adapter attach to the lens? And is the hood for the 80-200 AFS usable with it?

I think the 80-400 lens hood will fit
but will probably cause significant vignetting,
especially on FullFrame.
Keep looking for a used replacement as there are some out there.
I have not seen a 3rd party unit that I like better.
I especially dislike the rubber ones although they do work.

I was being premature and lazy when I said that, without current testing and only relying on memory.
I just now took the hood off my 80-400 and it fit the AF-S 80-200 fine.
It is actually slightly shorter but solid.
However, when looking through it with my D600 there is slight shadowing in the corners.
The scallops in the 80-200 hood are located such that there are none.
The Photographer who sold me his mint 80-200 lost his hood and replaced it with three.
I may have an extra one.
