p.1 #5 · 24-70 F/2.8 ED VR II Lens or Typo? | |
Just a typo. It's obviously referring to a current offer. The picture of the lens is the current version...etc
Don't expect a 24-70mm 2.8 replacement for many years.
The current one is one of the best zooms ever made. Even now, 4 years later (or 5 I suppose kind of), it still hasn't been topped. Canon's 24-70mm II might be a little sharper in some cases. But it gives up the nice design with a nice hood, to do it. It also gives up an EXTREMELY GOOD macro magnification factor for a very poor one... And also doesn't give the incredibly good bokeh the 24-70mm Nikkor gives, imho. Tamron's version gives VC but consistency, sharpness, bokeh, none of them are up to the Nikkor. Maybe Sigma will be able to pull it off when they re-design their 24-70mm with their FLD glass and such...who knows.
But really, standard zooms last a long while and have a really long life, and the Nikkor is at the top or shares the top spot w/the brand new Canon. Based on previous history (8 year gap between the 28-70 and the 24-70...and yet the 28-70mm is still an extremely good lens)...don't expect a replacement until at least 2016.
