This is from a recent trip to Donner Lake, not too far from Lake Tahoe on the California / Nevada border.
I use BW pretty rarely. This scene, however, had only a few bits of color: the beach, a blue roof and a street light. The street light had this odd red-orange glow that reflected onto the lake. Converting to BW removed, or at least drastically reduced what were effectively distractions due to the color elements.
C&C welcome. I am fairly happy with the BW conversion, though frankly I didn't do very much to optimize it, because I thought it captured a nice mood without fiddling.  However, I would not be surprised to find out it could be improved.
