p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · D800E malfunction

I used the camera yesterday, and all seemed fine. Today, if I take a picture, it shows up on the screen, but then stays there, and never goes away. Also the replay does not work, nor does the menu button. Screen stays blank.
Any suggestions? I will need to switch systems. I have two SD cards with many images, the cards were formatted in the Nikon. can I use the cards in a Sony A900 without reformatting? reason I ask, is we are still homeless after Sandy. I want to leave the images on the cards because I have no back up capability, I am living with a notebook PC intil I can return home.
camera under warranty, but I hate to send it away.
Thanks
Dave

Sure your cards are not full?

Is the "play" button stuck in?

Turn off the camera and remove the cards. Put another card in, format it, and then take a picture. If it works fine, then you have two full cards. Then put your full cards in a baggie and leave them in your camera bag until you can up load them. Better to have clean cards in your camera encase you need to capture more images or document your return home.

Sorry for the troubles you and your neighbors are going through. Hope you get home soon.

My thought also. I had two D700's with sticky 'Play' buttons and they showed the same symptoms.

Maybe just pulling out the battery when the camera is on might do the trick.

Electronics are strange sometimes. Hope it is just a hiccup, but if it's not. You can almost walk to the Nikon repair center (figuratively of course)! I have to send mine to CA.

Hope you and your family get back to normal soon!

Thanks all. Tried all the above, then gave up. UPS picked up tonight, delivery tomorrow guaranteed to Nikon. I do not know their turn around, but hope to have it back soon.
best regards
