Thw whole California coast gets the marine layer and fog come in off the water in the afternoon/evening due to hot inland valley temps which suck in this cooler/high moisture air off the ocean.SF being on the inlet to the bay sees a lot of fog
A lot off time it burns off too quickly and there is only a brief time of magic sun and fog.
The amount of fog and weather systems you get in Norway in the winter that I have seen in your shots is much better than our summer fog. Still envious of your photo weather....Show more →
yeah, catching the sun and fog together is really tough to time, especially where i live, which is basically a little temperate rain forest isolated on the top of a hill. usually the weather is different if i go 100ft down hill. i never have any idea looking out my window whether the rest of the city is sunny or not.
if i want to to get fog and sun together the easiest way to do it is to go right up to the ocean (e.g. all those land's end photos i posted last year). any time it is sunny just inland (in outer richmond in the case of land's end) you can go there just after sunrise and catch a thin layer of sea fog that the sun can still penetrate.
anyway, here's some color photos from the same walk:
