Now, there is the choice to R or not to R, and I know all the differencies, but what I do not understand is, that the non-R is rated higher at DxO ?

Curious - have most of you RX1 users purchased the EVF or are you just using the LCD?

I had the EVF on my first one, and its a great EVF, and the tilt feature is super handy......HOWEVER, it rather kills the small size of the camera, making it not longer really fit into a coat pocket, small bag etc, and you do have to worry about knocking it on things

So far on my second RX1 haven't really felt the need to spend the money, LCD works pretty well for my needs

Enjoyed the 35 Sonnar's smooth rendering and the quiet leaf shutter too much, so ditched the A7r (for the time being)

1 or 2 more than I sell a year =)

I originally used the EVF, ended up selling it and now miss it sometimes. I'll likely end up buying another one. With the EVF, I used it tilted up, very similar to how I used to hold and shoot my TLR's and Hasselblads with WLF. I'm now using an optical finder. It's obviously not as accurate as far as framing but something about the simplicity is nice to work with (I "focus" on the camera less sometimes). One thing with the optical finder that has not been an issue at all - surprisingly- is AF. The RX1 AF is very accurate and I have yet to miss a shot due to AF failure when using the optical finder. In the end, I will end up using both EVF + OVF.

Thanks. I used to use the 5N in the same way and I really liked shooting from that vantage point.

I bought mine together with the camera almost a year ago. You can use slower shutterspeeds, because you it's more stable when you press it to your eye. It also makes shooting it more engaging than just looking at an LCD all the time.
Sometimes I leave it off though, when I want the smallest most discrete appearance.

Millsart, so you ditched the A7r for the RX1 again? Interesting

A7r just couldn't really meet the needs I had for the system, mainly due to lack of native glass, and as much as I hoped some of the lower cost alts would work, they results really didn't seem that ideal.

I'm not wiling to spend the crazy money required for a Leica WATE for example, and the VC seem less than stellar, same with Zeiss ZM18 and such.

I couldn't see spending what is still a pretty hefty chunk of money for body, adapters and glass, just to have "good enough" corners if I stopped down to f11. I bought into it under the (perhaps silly) assumption that it was going to work great with basically anything you stuck on there, which certainly didn't happen.

If/when some native wide and tele options come available I may revisit it, but for now, I find the RX1 is the better 35mm option for me. I'd love to see a native 18 or 21mm prime, and maybe a 75 or 90mm as well, but who knows if that will take until 2015

I'm just not really that interested in buying/testing/returning a endless parade of old alt glass and adapters.

I just wanted to ideally get a good FF mirrorless, throw it in a small shoulder bag with a couple of VC M mounts and keep the cost reasonable. A7r just doesn't deliver that right now.

If/when a good ultra wide native zoom or ultra wide fast prime comes out, I could probably see myself just buying it with a used A7 (likley will be plenty on the market sooner or later) and using it side-by-side with the RX1. Maybe add a fast tele prime to the kit as well

two FF 24meg bodies, 3 focal lengths covered along with some backup redundancy for travel, less lens changes, option for silent shooting with the RX1 etc.

Hi all

I've been following this thread for some time, you guys posting the awesome photos here actually got me to finally ditch my Canon setup and switch to Sony, first of all an A99 with some zeiss and Minolta lenses.

However when trying to figure out an 35mm lens to buy for the camera i finally came to my senses and bought an RX1 instead...
Early christmas present for myself..
I hope to be able to share some pictures here from time to time..
Today just two quick ones..

Love the feeling, build and the quality of the few pictures i've taken so far!

50% crop iso 1600.

Can someone recommend a good remote/shutter release other than the old-style cable? How do you guys do your bulb exposures? No one seems to know in the "General Gear Talk"
