Looking for a 27" monitor (Mac/Samsung/Dell) for photo editing

I'm getting the D800 or D4 in the near future and thought of upgrading my monitor. My Dell 2405 is starting to die after 6 years(can't calibrate properly as the blue (RGB) channel is not working).

I'm looking for a 27" Mac Cinema Display or something equivalent with Dell or Samsung. I looked at the Dell U2711 but it looks like it has some issues and the price is close to the Cinema display.

My budget is about $1000.

I will be editing using Lightroom 4.2 for editing and printing photos.

I looked at the Eizo and NEC but they are a little out of my price range although the Eizo 23-24 inch is in my price range. Does anyone here have any experience with the lower priced Eizo's.

I just bought two Dell U2711 monitors. And I also use Lightroom 4,2 and print my photo's. I'm very pleased with those monitors

Check the B&H price today on the pa27w w/o the SV software. I think you will be surprised!

Th Dell U2711 is a great monitor. I have one and love it. My only complain is that it gets pretty hot after a while of use. During this time of the year I don't mind the heat, but when summer comes that's another story.

I am in the same boat looking for a monitor to work with my MacBook Pro Retina.

Has anybody had any problems with either the Apple 27" or Dell 27" displays?

Is the extended warranty worth it for $130?

Thanks.

At least where I live the Dell have a 3 year warranty. And they come home to you and replace it within those 3 years, if you have any problem.

I would stay away from the ones that you mentioned above. If money is not really tight, consider this one:

I've got two, and the only issue I've had was pushing the buy button on two at once. They're excellent. What issues are you talking about?

The NEC PA271 is $799 today at B&H. This is the one without the SpectraView software or calibration puck but you can order that separately if you don't have them already. The Spectraview II software is worth the money for an NEC monitor!

Great price but I hear you need the SV software and calibrator(about $300) to properly calibrate
the extended gamut. i have the i1 display 2 and i don't think it would work for calibration. is this
true? do you need the NEC calibrator or can you use any others?

I have and use coloreyes software and it's supposed to work with the NEC's. I have been using it with my really old Eizo monitor for years and it's great software for calibration. I don't have the NEC to test it on yet.

Any reason why the PA271W-BK-SV is $1449 (BH)? I read somewhere they use the cream of the crop displays for these monitors compared the just the BK version.

The spectraview puck and software is $291 so I'm wondering why 649 price difference. Also, the spectraview is based on the i1 display pro so I wonder if the i1 display 2 can work. Can you use the NEC puck for other displays?

Thanks.

You mean aside from the dismal resolution 1920x1080 resolution as opposed to 2560x1440 of most good 27" monitors.

I've never noticed this problem at all, perhaps if I did my editing in a overly bright room I would. But I doubt it.

If 10 bit and wide gamut are not high on your priority list the u2713w seems to be a great alternative.
Though I've never used one.

I'm Considering its little brother U2412M as a second monitor.

Can I connect to u2711 and nec 27inch monitors with minidisplay port on Macbook pro 13" mid-2010 and early 2011 models?

Thanks.
