Well, Bob seems to be knocking shots out of our trip, left right and center so i suppose i must also step up to the plate! i also know that bob took a shot at this exact point the following day.

we where lucky this morning as the sky had continual snow squalls coming through which gave opportunity to catch some nice light, though awkward to capture effectively.
taken on my most used lens at bryce nikon 14-24 @ f11 around 18mm, though corrected for WA distortion. three shots blended.

thanks for looking

That's a kick ass shot.. Love how sunlight and snow react with one another. Creates such a beautiful diffused light. Thanks for sharing

This is spectacular and so glad to hear I am not the only one obsessed with correcting or avoiding wide angle distortion!

Hey Simon,

Very cool. The snow in Bryce is always sweet, add to that such cool light and it makes for a great shot.

Lovely light, colour and detail Simon - really glows! I'm undecided about this, but did you try any compositions without the tree? Part of me loves the tree as a feature - the other part wonders what a more minimalist composition would have looked like?

What a great shot. The warm colors and cold temperature make a fascinating contrast. I love the tree as well. And to get that glowing sky is quite special.

thanks guys, was an amazing placeto be with such conditions, totally different to the south coast

Lizzie, options here where limited due to the terrain falling away in the wrong way or with unwanted clutter debris in the foreground, so no not this time around.

I want to go there! What are the chances of catching snow at Bryce on a winter trip? I will have to plan in advance, so I won't be able to pick and choose time based on weather.

sorry, i cant comment on the snow amount here, but given the altitude i would of thought it more than likely. perhaps Bob, or Craig could chime in on that one?

Simon, that's a brilliant photograph.

Jack, not sure how to help you predict whether or not you will get snow in Bryce Canyon. As Simon said, the elevation is quite high, BUT it is in the southern part of Utah and almost all the ski areas are in the northern part of the state.
Bryce gets different storms than we do in Salt Lake, but if we are having a good snow year, chances are Bryce will also have snow
So far, one good storm that hammered Salt Lake and it is the same one Simon and I enjoyed in Bryce. Since then , zero precipitation.
I feel like an economist, "if on the other hand"

Excellent scene. Excellent execution, Simon.

By the way, may be over your way mid December.

Cheers,
Ed

You just have to schedule a trip and hope for the best. I think January has the highest chances of getting snow. As said above Bryce is at nearly 8,000 feet in altitude, so it tends to get snow, but it is still in the desert, so it's hit and miss. I'm heading down for 3 days middle January and hoping there will be some.

Is it really necessary to use crude language to express yourself in a public forum? What ever happened to civility?
