p.1 #1 · Profoto Pro-7b Battery Re-Cell

Hey everyone, looking to re-cell one of my 7b batteries. Does anyone know what is the best way to do this? I'm pretty confident about doing it myself, seems pretty straightforward, but do you know if you can get the Lithium one and put it in a Pb cassette?

Also any sources on batteries only would be great

Never done it myself, but have had several re-celled by Profoto. It was only $85.00 last time for the original type of battery, and they turned it around quickly. Worth it to me to know that it's being done to spec.

I don't have Profoto packs, but from what I read they are just SLA (at least the old ones are). Remove the screws from the battery case, find out the capacity and report back so the others can use as a reference in the future. Seems to be pretty straight forward.

"SLA? "

Sealed lead acid. a battery technology from the 60s and 70s. It has a cell voltage of 2.2 VDC per cell, which means you can't re-cell with NiMH or LiON. Their cell voltages are too low.

The good news is that SLA batteries are cheap and reliable. Just not very environmentally friendly.

Reporting back, the battery used is a 12v 12Ah SLA battery. I found them at BatteriesPlus for $49.99 with free installation. 7b works like new again

BatteriesPlus installed the SLA for you?
Doesn't it involve soldering the terminals?

Yeah they installed it. They solder the wires onto the terminals.

Thanks for getting back to us! I swapped my Broncolor A2R packs 12V 12Ah SLA battery out for 4x3.3V LiFePO4 38120P cells, it works like a charm! Looks like this will work for the 7b too!

Hmm... does the charger still work? I have one left to re-cell maybe I'll try it.
