p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Soggy Football

Every year some friends of mine get together for a big game of touch football. I'm a wuss, so I just take the pictures ;-) This year was very wet. I threw a bag over my camera and cut a hole for the lens, taped it up with some masking tape and I was good to go. Here's what I came up with.

It's long, but I'm always open to your crit, if you feel like it.

Nice storytelling...love the shots with the little boy running the ball...you can totally see the joy in his expression. Good times!

Looks like a chaotic good time. Nice story flow and details. The one critique would be that the players in most of the action shots are pretty much the same size. This is likely due to the whole lens/hole thing. Did you use a T/S lens for sports photography? Quite bold.

Thanks once again.

Dave - Good point, I hadn't noticed that, so thanks for bringing it up. It's because I was using a fixed focal length and everybody was usually about the same distance from me.

But, naw the TS was just for that one shot in 7. There's no way I could manually focus that fast and accurately. For all the action shots, I was using the 135. The getting ready and after game shots was the 35 and the food shots were the 24.

Good stuff - I like the different angles in 12 especially. The action shots are cool. I wondered the same thing as Nikko - how did you and your gear stay dry?

This is VERY nitpicky, but in 12a, the dodging is a tad obvious - there's a slight halo around the lady. Not really noticeable and I'm probably a jerk for pointing it out, but it did jump out a bit to me.

Hey guys, sorry for the late response, thanks very much.

Ben, dude I'd never think you're a jerk, that's exactly the type of stuff I wanna hear, and now that you point it out, it's actually very noticeable.

To keep dry, I actually stopped by a store on my way and picked up a cheap parka, some ziplock bags, a roll of paper towels and some masking tape. The parka obviously went over me, the zip lock over the camera and I carried a bunch of paper towels in my pocket to wipe the back of the camera, because some drips would make it on there and it would get a bit wet. It was pretty kludgy, but I managed.
