I'm looking at getting a 2x II extender to use with my 500mm f4. I'm using my 1.4 extender and it's really sharp and i've heard some not so hot comments from people about the 2x and was wondering if anyone had any sample shots. I just need a bit more reach for an eagle nest that i'm shooting in the mornings. Before buying it i'd like to hopefully see some shots to help my decision. Thanks capt don

I would get the 2X III. It has improved noticeably compared to 2X II.

In general IQ suffers slightly more than the 1.4X, but, when you can't get close it does the job.

I agree with "Speedmaster 20D"... Get the 2x Type III.

I had a Type II but sold it after I saw the difference it made with the 300/2.8 I had at the time. I used it with my 500/f4 (Series 1) to make 2 of the 3 shots on this thread:
