Yea I think it does. Consider 1DsMK2 is better in every aspect (but on other hand lacking few hidden features of original 1Ds) and its pretty good buy.

Original 1Ds was pretty decent camera too, only weakness was bit iffy (greenish tint) colors. And it has superweak AA..

M Lucca -- So, is this a done deal? Have you bought this 1Ds2 for $900 or not?

Dustin -- Why the photo from the original 1Ds? Beautiful image, but how does it apply to the 1Ds2 discussion?

Well i know most of your posts seem to have a "half glass" type of outlook, and I have the the opposite outlook. My gear doesn't limit my ability. Sorry if I seem abrasive - but too many people think better gear makes them better photographers.

This was taken with obsolete film 2 weeks ago.. Nikon F5 and Reala film...

Someone arrived cash in hand a day ahead of me.

Nonetheless this thread has piqued my interests with the 1ds-series....

M Lucca -- Thanks for the update, and sorry you didn't get that copy. And yes, this is a great thread, thanks.

Dustin -- Ha-ha! Well, technically, if a drop has been removed from the glass, it is no longer full. Even evaporation has a negative impact on the volume of water.

I suppose I am a bit tactless and cynical, maybe irritating at times. (Where is old wicker when you need him?)

I didn't understand how a photo from the earlier model added much to the discussion of the 1Ds2, and still don't, other than it is a beautiful photo to look at, regardless of the camera. Same for the Nikon film shot you've posted.

Agree that the photos are beautiful, and that it's not all about which camera gets called into duty, but the 1Ds2 is a very good body for the prices being discussed here. No way I'm selling mine that low, which is why I still use it.

Craigslist sellers don't wait around because too many wishy washy buyers. Next time you see a great deal don't spend 4 days talking about it, and remember cash in hand is the best way to deal.

I love my 5D3 but if it's raining, dusty or any other tough conditions I'll take the 1Ds2 it's an incredible camera and built like a tank. All software is fine on my MBP OSX Lion as well.

There was a 1ds2 locally posted on CL. It was priced at $750 and I responded via email within 5 mins. The seller said I was the 5th person on the list as a definite "when can I pick it up". Another went for $1000 only lasted through the weekend. Plenty of demand for it. Scramble quick if you are in the market for one, especially if the price is at/below 1k with life still left on shutter. I was dragging my feet on a bunch because I could not believe a body that old could command more than $500. The output seems to justify the demand for it.

You're absolutely right, great gear doesn't a great photographer make. However great gear helps a great photographer achieve an even more beautiful end product.

As for your beautiful film shot... it reminds me how much I miss my old 35mm. They sure had a special feel to them.

Just wondering does the 1ds2 allow for different file format written to the separate cards? ie. raw in CF card and jpg in SD?

This option came later when canon released the 1D2N but not before it. Ds2 does not have that option and slot # 2 always dedicates as backup CF only

No, that feature was indeed for 1D mkII N and models after like Michael said above. However you can of course write RAW and JPG to the same card. Have EOSfun

I am using slot # 2 as a spare tire to double the CF room. It is still a great budget pro-camera that fits most our daily requirement. Like EOSfun said, there is nothing like 1Dseries eosfun

Their tones curve can be modified and re-uploaded for those who prefers JPG format application like the below samples:

For a daytime shooter like me, there is no other camera better than 1Ds MkII under $1500....

Heck... the camera was THE camera to own just few years ago....

I posted the shot from the original 1Ds because it is even older than the 1Ds2, and should be better that is all

Dustin -- Thanks for the added explanation. I'm a fan of the original 1Ds, and was sorry when I needed to sell it to help fund the 1Ds2. You took some excellent shots with the 1Ds in the Columbia Gorge as I recall.
