Which tablet is best for tethering to a 5D II? Which is the easiest to use? Does it require additional software or hardware. If so, how much does that cost?

I use the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 combined with DSLR controller and a special connector (about 30$ when I bought it two years ago). Now I can see all live view and camera controls on the tab. It's a great cost effective solution. The only thing that could use improvement is the wired connection. I'd rather have a wireless solution. That is the future. The 6D does offer this kind of WiFi solution. Wether this is also the future of the 5DmkII depends on either firmware updates and/or additional WiFi hardware. Until then an USB connected android driven tablet with DSLR control is great for usability and EOSfun

This is a great little application on Android.
You'll need a simple USB Host cable (a few dollars on ebay) to connect.
I have the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7+ for $249; something like 5 bucks for the cable and not even 10 dollars for the software.

Shuttersnitch is an inexpensive program for my iPad and with my 1D Mark III it works with the wireless adapter on the camera. Many people use a WiFi card in the SD slot to broadcast to their tablet. No WiFi network is required.

Thanks Everyone!

Are the Eye-Fi adaptors for iPads too slow for instaneous tethering?

Coupla questions on the setup, if that's OK.

How big is the app window on the screen of that device - the phablet display itself is HD (1280x720) - so how big does the app display the LiveView image? Have you hooked the camera up with its HDMI out to the HDMI in of the phablet? If so, is the LiveView image better than through the USB connection (just to compare PQ even if you can't control it through the HDMI) - sort of relates to the questions on the CamRanger and use of an external monitor threads
Thanks for any reports on your choice!

I should probably clarify that I'm still waiting for the phablet in the mail, I just ordered it 2 days ago. But if it works like in the original Note, it'll look something like this,

http://youtu.be/O_IZ2duu94Y

I don't think DSLR Controller works with HDMI connection, which is the app I'm gonna be using the phablet with. That said, I wouldn't worry too much about using USB, I've tried streaming a 720p video through USB to my PC and it works just fine without lag.

I'm wondering if it can compete at all with the Modbook pro. Certainly a niche, but I'm sure some artists would be very, very happy.

On another note, Nexus 7 anyone? $199 and it should be compatible with anything the Galaxy tabs are doing.

As of now, I think only the 6D will be able to use it though.

I know an iPad3 can tether to a Canon camera and display the CR2 files straight up, which is nice.

Pixel am I missing something?

My iPad wont tether to my canon camera . Unless you mean using the camera connection kit.
If hats what you mean then yes I can cable my camera to my iPad but more than a couple of raw files is not really an option as transfer speeds are really slow . I tried to upload a few hundred raw files between sessions of the British motogp . I had about half an hour to do it and probably had between 3 & 400 raw files from my 7D . I just had to give up because the transfer got nowhere close to completing .

Also on a slight side note , RAW files and the iPad don't really go hand in hand. Yes it will display them but the iPad is only using the embedded jpeg (I found a proper raw app a while back but it's really really slooooow to the point of being usless) . And when I have had raw files on my iPad and tried to delete them I have ended up with lots of dead space that the iPad can't see and I couldn't get back . iTunes just reported it as 'other' . I got to about 18gb of 'other' on my 64 gig iPad which was about the total size of the raw files I 'deleted' . Only way I got the spec back was to wipe the iPad and reinstall all my apps etc. that's not something I want to have to do that often
