Practice shots, taken at photo club outing to a nearby vineyard.
Could use your input, pointers for improvements in comp, lighting, processing, what have you.

I like the first best. Second is crooked. Did the winery serve the red in that glass? If so, they are shortchanging themselves. Wrong glass for reds. Might be OK if it is a dessert wine, otherwise the red can't breathe.

Thanks, folks.
White it is.
Second shot was purposely left slightly tilted, hoping for a bit more dynamic feel.
Yes, cheap wine glasses, "yours to keep" with the tasting. Their claim to fame is providing a sparkling white wine to the inauguration of Clinton.
Paul: Can you be a bit more specific about the color issues?
p.1 #10 · p.1 #10 · What will you be having? Red or white?
One aspect @ the color issue for me is that the yellow and blue are complementary (opposing), so the contrast of the warm vs. cool hue creates a place for the eye to be drawn (via hue contrast) away from the subject ... somewhat like the more common tonal value (i.e. highlight) contrast that draws us to areas other than where we want to focus our viewer's attention.
I'm between builds again, so I haven't checked WB / cast issues on this one yet, but it looks like the glass is picking up some surrounding colors as well. This is natural, but it might be a non-flattering detractor to address in post.
p.1 #11 · p.1 #11 · What will you be having? Red or white?
It's the colour palette rather than any balance issues.
The lovely autumn colours, the delicate shade of the wine all upset by the 'crass' (seems like the right word) blue.
In the red shots the nothing grey of the sky doesn't add anything.
The reflection in the glass again takes focus away from the central subject.
And the final nail, and probably the real reason these don't work, these are all 'glass 3/4 empty' shots! How am I supposed to like that idea? Give me a full glass, damn it!

Paul,
Sorry about the portion size.
Thanks for the more detailed clarification.
Not sure if you would have liked the wines either!
I liked one out of 5.
But, it was a beautiful warm fall day, just ahead of the superstorm that did so much damage to the south in NJ and NY. And a nice group of photographers to join.
