That's interesting. I was not looking at 5D III at that time so I missed the thread you included. My concern was whether they are Canon authorized dealer or not. But as you can see on their eBay listing they say:

★★ NEW USA MODEL with Canon USA WARRANTY ★★

It is not clear that being an authorized dealer is an issue.

We have seen that posted here. There was also someone who quoted Canons warranty, and who also quoted legal opinion that Canon was still required to service if it had a a receipt and was not grey market.

HOWEVER, the 42nd street just says "US Warranty", NOT "Canon USA Warranty"

That is a significant difference. Unless they say otherwise, I would assume grey market with their own warranty, or a Mack warranty, etc.

I respect people's opinions on merchants as long as they actually used the merchant before. I have used 42nd street with no problems and they never tried any upselling or bait and switch tactics. Why do some people try to denigrate merchants without having facts?

I quite agree with you however I am not sure why an online order should involve receiving a phone call from a sales person.

When I searched google for "reviews of 42nd Street Photo" the following link was the first one on the list I got:

Dunno, maybe they changed their business practice since I last dealt with them?...considering how low the price is on the 5d3, it's entirely possible that they have turned the wrong direction.

I can't believe Canon is still charging $3300 for that camera. I wouldn't pay more than $2500-$2700 for it at the very most (if I ever bought one)...terribly overpriced.

I ordered from 42nd St a few times and always got my stuff. But, yeah, unless you're from New York, avoid talking to them on the phone. Hardcore up-sale, fast talk and little side insults if they think you're weak (West Coast politeness is often mistaken for weakness). I just figured that was the New York way and stuck to what I wanted without getting mad. Now some of the other places would suddenly claim the item was out of stock if the up-sale failed, so 42nd ST might be the best of the bad...

I did buy a camera from 42photo -- and I did speak with them on the phone... well... they were rude, arrogant, but I got the gear. It might be a cultural thing... The price I got was good, but I got a kit sold outside the US because it was a two lens kit, and nobody else was selling the same thing in the US -- it was the dmc-gx1 with the 14mm and the 14-42mm. The 14mm was not included, but the box was originally including it. This being said, it is possible that at one point the 14mm and 14-42mm were offered with the camera, but no other major stores that I am aware of was or had offered it for sale. Just my two cents. When we shop for low prices...
