Carmine Bee eaters form huge colonies usually on a river bank wall but in this part of Botswana there aren't any so they nest in the sand. This first series shows some individuals and small groupings.
Hope you enjoy.
Eric

A lovely set of images, Eric. So different from the rainbow bee eaters that we get where I live. I can hardly believe the numbers you've shown. I've only seen them in ones and twos.

Wow what a neat bird Eric, I love this set. #5 and #10 are my picks. Do you think that is the first time a bird has perched there.

Super set CT!!! Oh wait it's Eric Wow what a colorful scene! These guys look like they could be a lot of fun to watch and photograph. 4 & 10 would my picks. 10 would be more so if that guy didn't paint the perch so thoroughly! Great set Eric!

Spectacular photos of spectacular birds! I know how difficult it is to capture these speedy birds in flight and get them with insects. We saw a similar nesting area in the Linyanti last year, and while I was able to get groups of them taking off and landing together at dusk, I never got the portraits you did. Could I ask what lens you were using?

Holy Carnine-O-Rama, that's not fair, I've never even seen one over there. Cool find and images to say the least!

Some superb images of a gorgeous family of birds - all bee-eaters are spectacular. Impossible to pick a winner there are so many I like.

I've never seen a bee-eater under 50 feet up on wires or in flight !

Believe me Lindsay, I hadn't seen so many close up either. This is the breeding season and these colonies are not terribly uncommon...what is in this case is that its on the ground in sand rather than on the side of a hill/cliff/bank.

Thanks Ron, I'm sure you understand that it was really difficult to know where to shoot as there were so many. I had a plan but that went out the window pretty quickly and I just shot when things got interesting.

Thanks Ken...the color is spectacular but distracting at the same time. Trying to pick out a single bird was almost impossible...I guess that's the point when it comes to predators.
