Feeding on a thorn tree.
With an extra-long neck and the ability to stand on their hind legs while feeding, these lovely animals can browse on leaves and twigs that are reachable only to them- and giraffes and elephants.
Talk about evolutionary refinement.

Way cool info Charlie. The first shot sure did catch my eye funny, it just doesn't seem natural. Thanks for sharing these cool shots.

Thanks Eric, Conrad, Ted, Rob, Tim, Ken and Socrate.
I didn't know about the existence of geranuks until I first saw them. What a surprise they were.
In case you haven't noticed, I should point out that the first shot is of a male; the second is a female. About the same size- as I remember- although I never saw them together.

Thanks Morris, Tom and Ron.
An alien look to it. Only Ron would see his family tree in an image like that .
That doesn't worry me, but the truth is that I ALSO see the alien look. And that worries the hell out of me .
Geranuk have really narrow and delicate-looking facial characteristics that are most noticeable when they're looking straight at you.
And of course, there is that looong 'n' lovely neck .

__________

Their long neck allows them to graze high up those thorny trees.Did you know that gerenuks copulate while on the move? That is to say, they do not stay still while in the act.
