I had the chance, to play with the Tamron 70-200 for one week. The sample I got was super fast (AF), accurate too (as far I could see) and it felt great in my hands. Imo the zoomring was a tic to tight and yes - for me it is in the wrong position. But nothing one could not learn to use. The 90 macro looked excellent, too.
I am really interested to see some test results with production samples (I was not allowed to safe images).
I am in the minority but I like the zoom ring out front. In the world of such accurate AF my hand stays on the zoom ring not the focus ring when I am shooting. If my hand is further out the camera seems more stable.
I like to have my hand on the focus ring to be able to correct it where I want to have the focus. Changing zoom range is my first step, changing focus if I think its needed my last before pushing the shutter release.
