Thanks Jude. These guys are always fascinating to watch and photograph. Challenging, too, as their iridescence depends on the angle of the light. Luckily, it was good that day.
Thanks Ted! I think it's worth the 60 miles round-trip just to "get" these guys. And if you throw in the Mandarin Duck, too, well then it's a no-brainer...

Well Dan, it looks like you should be able to get pretty close with your 100-400, which is my "backup" lens to the 500. Maybe you could try feeding them, that's what brought this guy in -- a photographer was throwing out food and then taking closeups. Me, I was just taking advantage of what he did...
