p.1 #1 · God Beams over the Tetons

Les Trois Tempêtes ( The Three Tempests). A violent storm rushed over the Teton Range: "les Trois Tétons" (the three breasts) by early French Explorers. Shining through the dissipating storm clouds emerged God beams bathing the range in glorious light.

Which do you prefer ?
The original capture is a vertical photograph, I feel it may be a stronger image cropped as horizontal. I'm torn, because the near / foreground of sage and brush leads a proximity perspective to the mountains in the distance. The crop also omits some of the dramatic light as well....

I always thought one was too few and three were too many.

We were referring to martinis weren't we ?

Wow - #1 is my choice. The foreground and sky opening gives a stronger composition. The mood is dramatic - like Lord of the Rings. Nice!

Tough call on which, I like vertical version with the dark cloud containing the sun burst along the top, but the landscape version gets me closer, print them both...

The landscape version is my pick here. The saturation really adds to the beams.

Never heard the term God beams before. I always called them sun rays.

I prefer the horizontal presentation it shows off the beams and clouds so much better IMO.

Both look great. For viewing on screen I go for the landscape but for printing and hanging either depending on where it was to hang.
Thanks for sharing

Great light and love the darkness. I think both work well in their own way.

Nicely seen.
I like the second one just a bit more as it gives an expansive view/feel

Both gorgeous! As to your question - I prefer the landscape because, as you point out, it reveals a greater degree of wonderful light and rays.

Also, I might try a version with 1/4 of the bottom sage cropped out so my eye is pulled even more quickly to the Tetons and the dramatic light - the primary center-of-interest.

I love both of these. The detail and the stunning light over the mountains make a terrific combination.

Hey Matt,

Thanks for the French lesson, and what a cool shot. I prefer #2 myself, but actually I would suggest going to a square composition or perhaps a 4:5 format to include a little more sky at the top.
