UPDATE 2: I have piked up the laptop from Apple store. The screen assembly is replaced. The laptop now look like new. For the sake of clarity, I will start a new FS topic.
UPDATE 1: Due to the overwhelming concern about the dead pixel on the screen, I went to the local Apple Store today and have the laptop checked out. It turned out to be I decided to have the entire display assembly replaced. That means the display as well as the aluminum cover (i.e. top half of the laptop) will be replace with NEW parts by Apple. If everything goes well, after the repair, this laptop should be in MINT condition with only 2-3 hair line scratches on the bottom half. Unfortunately, I was charged over $600 for this repair. A scanned receipt is attached below. To partially cover my cost, I increased the price by $150 to $1640 shipped now. I appreciate your understanding. The laptop should be back on Friday. I will post "UPDATE 2" when I receive it back from repair. Thanks.
This is the latest (and also the last) Macbook Pro 17" that Apple produced, a Oct. 2011 model. It is equipped with:
17" Unibody Apple MacBook Pro
2.4 GHz Quad-Core i7 Processor (2760QM Sandy Bridge)
16 GB of 1333 MHz DDR3 SDRAM
750 GB Hard Drive
8X DL "SuperDrive"
High Resolution Display (1920x1200)
Radeon HD 6770M with 1GB dedicated memory
Intel HD Graphics 3000
Mountain Lion 10.8.2 installed
The Laptop is under gentle use, because I have a desktop/workstation at home and this 17" monster is too heavy to carry. The battery charge count is 12 as for today!
Other than 2-3 barely noticed hair line scratches on the body, there is a small dent on the top cover (as you may see in the pictures). This is rather a cosmetic dent, and guaranteed not affecting any functions. Also, there is a imperfection on the screen as you can see in the last picture right above the mouse pointer. But it's barely noticeable under normal working distance. This laptop is in very good overall condition, and working perfectly. Asking for $1640 shipped within CONUS (paypal gift, money order, Chase quickpay). For regular credit card paypal, please add 3% to cover the fees on my end. Thanks for looking.

Hate to say it but the repair work order said it was under warranty and there were enough dead pixels to qualify for repair... Any reason given why it wasn't done under warranty?

Thanks for raising the question. At apple store, I was told explicitly that the repair will be covered under warranty if the screen has 5 or more hot pixels, and 7 or more black/dead pixels. But all I can find is 2 dead pixels and 1 hot pixel.
