p.2 #1 · Article: Use of an External Monitor for Tilt/Shift

Currently there are features in the DP6 which are not supported in devices such as the DSLR controller. Most notably resizing of the image to use the entire 1280X800 HD screen (see the video "effective Pixels 101" in the article), 1:1 display and focus peaking. However these are software features which a program such as DSLR controller could eventually incorporate, but from what I can tell, does not currently support.

It would appear that WiFi connectivity is going to be very popular in a few years, so this type of controller/display device would be easier to implement.

Of course the DP6 does not try to control the camera and thus wastes none of its display pixels to do that. Obviously, the DP6 is strictly a high resolution display device and packages such as the DSLR controller are designed to be interactive and perform many camera control functions by creating software controls on-screen. different goals.

Many comment that a larger display pad style will provide a "better" resolution. The 1280 x800 display of the DP6 is actually a bit more than the iPhone 5 (1136X640) or iPad2 (1024X768). If the camera's HDMI output were mapped to use all of the available iPhone pixels and had the 1:1 scaling feature, the resolution would be comparable, but the larger screen of the iPad would make this resolution visible from a greater distance. If the entire display of the iPad Retina (2048X1536) or competing android/Win8 pad were were scaled to display the HDMI out at 1:1, the resolution would be better and bigger. Then you would need a way to securely mount the iPad on the tripod.

My gripe is that Canon could do all of this as an aftermarket accessory, and do it better, but have not yet identified sufficient market need. We need many more threads such as this that would encourage them to develop such an accessory.

The DP6's the 1:1 scaling feature currently sets it apart from other monitors or phone/tablet software alternatives.
I'm curious to see how the new EOS remote will work with the new EOS 6D.
