I was out for a walk at Ponto Beach in Carlsbad one overcast morning and noticed a steady stream of bicyclists, later determined to be MS Bike participants, riding down the Coast Highway. I decided to practice some panning shots. Initial shots were not particularly successful but turned out better as I kept the camera tight to my face and just swiveled my hips to pan. Here are a few:

In retrospect, I wish I would have experimented with slower shutter speeds. Perhaps next time...

These are quite good. But yes, try slower shutters and careful panning for next time. Might be even better.
