I'm taking a small trip in a couple of weeks and decided the easiest solution would be my hi-matic clone. The only slightly annoying part is its ISO800 limit, but I don't think there is anything this small/inexpensive that goes higher with a 1.7 lens. I still use film occasionally, but the last time I used B&W was probably when I had my darkroom (so a good while ago). HP5 was my favourite film, I just loved the look from it... The fact that it was easy to work with was just a bonus. Delta 3200 was used occasionally for higher ISO flexibility, but not that often. Either way, all were hand printed.
I wonder as I'm limited to iso800, I might be better off just pushing HP5. But as ill send to the lab, it'll probably be scanned and printed selectively. Will either scan better? Or will both scan fine ? Another thought is as to whether I should set the film to ISO1600 and the overexpose by a stop for better detail. At which point I assume delta 3200 would be a better choice, as I'd never shot hp5 that high (in the back of my mind I have 800 as the limit for that film for some reason).
I also loved HP5 Plus, but I haven’t shot it in at least three years (though I’m increasingly tempted to shoot a bit of film again). You won’t have much control over development if you send it to a lab, though.
For that reason, I’d be tempted to use XP2 Super at EI 800 with normal development (so no special instructions for the lab). It tolerates EI 800 very well, and scans much better with Digital ICE than conventional black and white films, since there are no silver grains in the way.

See I never liked XP2 Super. And I think I will have enough control, as HP5 & XTOL seem to go fine together. If I were concerned, I could apparently pay £2 per film for a "clip test" to eliminate any issues with processing. But perhaps best to consult the lab on that one to see what they think.

I really want to see this himatic clone. There are plenty of all mechanical fixed lens rfs that wouldn't be as limited.
It's nothing special, it's worth like £10. "All mechanical" suggests carrying a separate meter, which wouldn't really work to well for casual snaps for me.
